Women's Basketball: Westminster 54, Fontbonne 50

ST. LOUIS - The Westminster Lady Blue Jays made 83 percent of their free throws (19-of-23) to complete a season sweep of the Fontbonne Lady Griffins in Saturday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.

Westminster College (7-9, 5-3 SLIAC) - which previously defeated Fontbonne University 79-68 on Nov. 30 in Fulton - led 20-15 after the first quarter Saturday and held a 29-25 advantage at halftime. The Lady Blue Jays outscored the Lady Griffins 12-8 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 41-33.

Senior guard Andrea Zalis connected for a game-high 15 points to direct Westminster, which shot 37 percent (17-of-46) from the field. Junior guard Payton Beeler came up with 10 points.

Sophomore forward Mirrakohl Johnson recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help Westminster take a 34-22 advantage on the boards.

Kaitlynn Walker and Raven Venegas finished with 12 points apiece to pace Fontbonne (8-10, 4-5), which shot 44 percent (21-of-48) as a team. Emily Haring added 11 points.

Westminster hosts a SLIAC matchup against Greenville (Illinois) College at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Blue Jays lost at Greenville 81-62 on Dec. 3.
