Women's Basketball: Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 62, William Woods 50

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The WWU Lady Owls shot just 33 percent (19-of-58) from the field in their American Midwest Conference loss to the undefeated, No. 1-ranked Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions on Saturday.

William Woods University (10-5, 7-3 AMC) trailed 17-14 after the first quarter and faced a 27-23 deficit at halftime. Freed-Hardeman University (16-0, 10-0) outscored the Lady Owls 19-8 in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 46-31.

Senior guard April Gebke topped William Woods - which has dropped two of its last three - with 12 points and senior forward Kelsey Scherder tallied 10. Junior forward Jasmine Brown and freshman guard Kaycee Gerald both had seven rebounds, but the Lady Owls were dominated on the boards 46-32.

Kim Mallory tallied a game-high 23 points for the Lady Lions, who only shot 34 percent (24-of-70) as a team. Tiffany Pate pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and Mallory finished with 11.

William Woods hosts AMC foe Stephens College at 7 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Arena.
