Women's Basketball: Columbia College 66, William Woods 64

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The WWU Lady Owls came up short against the No. 12 Columbia College Lady Cougars in an American Midwest Conference loss in Saturday's regular-season finale.

The score was tied at 64-all with 58 seconds remaining in the game after William Woods University sophomore guard Bailey Rollins knocked down a 3-pointer.

Ashlee Marlatt was fouled with :13 to go and made two free throws to give Columbia a two-point edge.

On the Lady Owls' final possession, senior guard April Gebke missed a shot at the buzzer that would have tied the game and forced overtime.

William Woods (19-10, 16-8 AMC) - which lost to the Lady Cougars 74-57 on Jan. 16 in Fulton - trailed Columbia College 14-11 after the first quarter Saturday and was down 34-21 at the break. The Lady Owls outscored the Lady Cougars 19-14 in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 48-40.

Gebke directed William Woods - which shot 43 percent (25-of-58) from the field - with 16 points. Junior guard Jasmine Brown tallied 15 points and Rollins finished with 10.

Brown and senior forward Kelsey Scherder pulled down six rebounds apiece, but Columbia College took a 41-31 edge on the boards.

Morgan countered with a game-high 17 points for the Lady Cougars (25-5, 19-5), who shot just 36 percent (22-of-61) as a team. Marlatt totaled 16 points and Sarah Walters supplied 12.

On Thursday night in Columbia, the Lady Owls demolished Stephens College in a 91-53 romp.

William Woods - which turned back Stephens 58-45 on Jan. 12 in Fulton - bolted to a 25-12 advantage after the first quarter Saturday and breezed into halftime with a commanding 52-22 lead. The Lady Owls outscored the Stars 19-13 in the third quarter to increased their advantage to 71-35.

Senior center Kennedy Volkart recorded a double-double with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds to pace William Woods, which shot 53 percent (34-of-64) as a team. Freshman guard Peyton Greenlee tallied 11 points, while Gebke made two of the Lady Owls' nine 3-pointers to come up with 10 points.

William Woods dominated Stephens on the boards 48-24.

Briana Clark led the Stars - who shot only 32 percent (18-of-57) from the field - with 12 points.

The Lady Owls play in the AMC postseason tournament quarterfinals Wednesday night. William Woods' seed and opponent has not been determined.
