William Woods women finish second at AMC track and field championships

ELSAH, Ill. The WWU Lady Owls scored 127.5 team points to take second place at the American Midwest Conference indoor championships on Friday at Principia College.

Missouri Baptist won the meet with 162.5 points and Columbia College took third with 109.

Megan Van Harn was named both the outstanding athlete of the meet and freshman of the meet.

Van Harn was victorious in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 30.64 seconds. She also placed second in the 400 in :50.93.

Van Harn teamed up with senior Sarah McRae and juniors Anna Houston and Jessica McIlhenney to win the 1,600 relay in 4:08.71.

Junior Madelyn Scrivner set a new school record in the weight throw with her 15.89-meter, first-place finish. Scrivner also took second in the shot put with an 11.50 mark.

Freshman Laurnea Jarman set a school record in the long jump with her 5.13 mark to take third place. Van Harn was fourth at 5.11 and junior Anna Houston placed fifth at 5.03. Freshman Aurora Pfeiffer earned seventh at 4.93.

Sophomore Anna Ash was victorious in the high jump with a 1.54 mark. Freshman Abagayle Bartlett placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 2.88.

In the 60 hurdles, Houston finished in :9.57 to take second and Ash was third in :9.64. McIlhenney was fifth in the 200 in :27.40, while junior Megan Wilson was sixth in :27.66. McIlhenney also placed sixth in the 60 in :8.25.

In the men's division, William Woods scored 84 points to place fourth. Columbia College won the meet with 193 points, Missouri Baptist was second with 105 and Lindenwood-Belleville took third with 99.

Sophomore Brandon Evans was named field athlete of the meet. He placed second in the long jump with a 6.54 mark and finished tied for third in the high jump at 1.82. Evans also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.20.

Freshman Ray Steele won the shot put with a 15.36 throw.

Junior Darrien Dickey was third in the long jump with a mark of 6.50. Sophomore Denver Horn placed fourth at 6.36 and freshman DaShaun Stark was fifth at 6.35. Horn was fifth in the high jump at 1.82.

Stark placed third in the triple jump with a 13.05 mark, while Dickey took fourth at 12.60. Junior Joey Mueller took fifth with 12.57 and junior Ruben Dorsey was sixth with 12.52.

Senior Kaleb Wilson placed third in the 5,000 with a 16:02.18 finish. Sophomore Alex Thompson took fifth in the mile in 4:29.77 and placed sixth in the 3,000 in 9:13.19.

Sophomore Henrique Tsugiyama took third in the 400 in :52.39. Freshman William Woods was sixth in the 60 hurdles in :10.14 and freshman Blaine Sarabia took seventh in the 60 in :07.36.

Members of both the Owls and Lady Owls will compete in the NAIA indoor championships March 2-4 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
