Missouri softball splits doubleheader in Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 17 Missouri played a doubleheader to start the Littlewood Classic on Friday, winning 11-7 against South Dakota before losing 7-3 to Illinois State.

Cayla Kessinger, Braxton Burnside, Anna Reed and Kolby Romaine all hit home runs for the Tigers in the first game. For Kessinger, Burnside and Reed it was their first Missouri home runs.

Kirsten Mack had her fourth multi-hit game after she started a two-out rally in the fifth inning with a single, followed by Burnside's blast to get the Tigers the lead.

Danielle Baumgartner got the win, going 41/3 innings in relief and striking out two.

Madi Norman (Tipton High School) got the start in the second game and gave up five runs, three earned, in four innings of work. 

Jolie Duffner (Blair Oaks High School), Chloe Rathburn and Burnside each had an RBI for the Tigers in the second game. Rathurn had a pair of doubles in the loss.

Redbirds' starting pitcher Sarah Finck pitched a complete game against the Tigers.

Missouri (5-2) has another pair of games today in the Littlewood Classic, starting with Wichita State at 3:30 p.m. and No. 21 Arizona State at 9 p.m.
