William Woods splits softball games on final day of Cowtown Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas - The WWU Lady Owls closed out the final day of the NAIA Cowtown Classic on Saturday with a win and a loss.

William Woods University (3-2) beat Bellevue (Nebraska) University Lady Bruins 4-3 in the first game and were shutout 9-0 by the No. 1 Oklahoma City University Lady Stars in the second game.

In the first game, Bellevue took the lead after it scored two runs in the fifth inning. The Lady Owls took a 4-2 advantage after they produced two runs in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh. The Lady Bruins came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior center fielder Hannah Campbell went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored as the Lady Owls collected seven hits. Senior catcher Brailee Schulte was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored.

Junior starter Bre Logan (1-0) went the distance to pick up the win for the Lady Owls. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits, struck out seven and walked seven.

In the second game, Oklahoma City scored a run in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Campbell, senior designated player Beth Begeman and sophomore first baseman Alli Massey recorded the Lady Owls' three hits.

Junior starter Allison Waskow (0-2) took the loss for William Woods. In five innings, Waskow allowed six runs - four earned - on 10 hits, struck out three and walked three.

The Lady Owls play a doubleheader against Briar Cliff (Iowa) University for their home opener at Backer Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Saturday.
