Lady Owls fade late in exhibition loss to SW Baptist

BOLIVAR - The William Woods University Lady Owls were outscored by Southwest Baptist University 22-14 in the fourth quarter of a 78-69 exhibition loss to the NCAA Division II Lady Bearcats on Saturday.

William Woods University was up 23-16 after one quarter and owned a slim 41-40 edge at halftime. Southwest Baptist outscored the Lady Owls 16-14 in the third quarter to go in front 56-55, then took control in the final 10 minutes.

Sophomore guard Peyton Greenlee scored on a layup to bring William Woods within 60-59 with 7 minutes, 17 seconds to play in the game. The Lady Bearcats then pulled away behind an 11-0 run, expanding their lead to 71-59 on Madison Strong's jumper with 3:35 remaining.

The Lady Owls cut their deficit to 74-66 when junior guard Bailey Rollins buried a 3-pointer with 1:36 to go. Greenlee - fouled on a missed 3-point attempt with :21 left - converted all three free throws to account for the final margin.

Greenlee, who was 4-of-5 from behind the arc, produced 19 points to pace four players in double figures for William Woods, which shot 46 percent (24-of-52) as a team and 47 percent (8-of-17) from 3-point range.

Senior guard Jasmine Brown also tallied 16 points for the Lady Owls, while Rollins finished with 13. Senior forward Hannah Bland contributed 11 points.

Bland pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to help give William Woods a 36-31 edge on the boards.

Megan Rosenbohm - who connected on 8-of-13 shots - matched Greenlee with 19 points to guide five players in double figures for Southwest Baptist. Strong and Morgan Henderson chipped in with 13 points apiece for the Lady Bearcats, who shot 48 percent (31-of-65) from the field.

Caylee Richardson added 12 points for Southwest Baptist and Ray'Shionne Smith followed with 11.

The Lady Owls return to American Midwest Conference play with a trip to No. 23 Lindenwood University-Belleville (Illinois) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. William Woods is 7-5 on the season and 5-2 in the AMC.
