Men's Golf: William Woods breezes to fourth straight AMC title

CAMDENTON, Mo. - The eighth-ranked WWU Owls easily secured their fourth consecutive American Midwest Conference championship, ending up with a 13-over par 865 total (286-286-293) on Tuesday at Old Kinderhook Golf Course.

With the title triumph, William Woods University earned the AMC's automatic bid to the NAIA national championships May 16-19 at TPC Deere Run in Moline, Illinois.

The Owls prevailed by 54 strokes Tuesday over second-place Missouri Baptist University's 919. Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University took third with a 927.

Senior Billy McKenzie crafted a 4-under 209 (73-66-70) to capture the individual title to direct William Woods. McKenzie was the only golfer in the field to finish under par.

Senior Matt Wells came in second behind McKenzie with an even-par 213 (69-72-72), while junior Jack Clarkson was third with a 218 (71-72-75). Senior David Houlding tied for sixth with a 226 (74-76-76) and sophomore Mark Martin finished 23rd with a 237 (73-82-82).
