College Softball: William Woods splits doubleheader with Lyon

William Woods softball split an AMC doubleheader Saturday, run-ruling Lyon 8-0 in the opener and falling 6-0 in the second game at Backer Sports Complex.

Alexis Hassler allowed three baserunners while picking up her ninth win of the season, striking out four and allowing a walk, a single and hitting a batter.

The Owls (13-19, 6-8 AMC) scored in all five innings in the first game. Mallory Feldewerth hit a two-run home run, her second of the season, and Hassler hit a solo shot, her third of the year, both with two out in the first inning.

Ally Mahoney homered to center, her fourth of the year, in the second inning. In the third, Mia Santos reached on an error, Emma Taylor tripled and Feldewerth singled to make the score 6-0.

Santos doubled with two out in the fourth and was singled in by Taylor. Devyn Burton doubled with two away in the fifth, Mahoney reached on an error and Lindsey Wilson walked to load the bases for Celeste Sermeno, who walked the game off with a single to center.

The Owls managed four hits in the second game against Lyon's Katelyn Platt, who struck out six in seven innings. Kalee Wall allowed two earned runs on eight hits in 5 innings, striking out one and walking none. Lyon scored five runs on five hits and an error in the top of the sixth inning.

William Woods hosts University of St. Mary at 3 p.m. Wednesday for a doubleheader.
