Women's Soccer: Westminster 4, Principia 2

The Westminster College Lady Blue Jays won their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against the Principia Lady Panthers at home on Saturday.

Westminster (3-4, 1-0 SLIAC) scored their first goal in the 31st minute when junior defender Kaely Fitterling was assisted by sophomore midfielder Gracie Koonce. Principia (1-7, 0-1) tied the game at 1-all in the 47th minute. The Lady Blue Jays took the lead back when junior Paige Townsend was assisted by Koonce in the 61st minute. Junior forward Payton Beeler extended Westminster's lead to 3-1 when she knocked in an unassisted goal in the 70th minute.

The Lady Blue Jays scored their final goal in the 87th minute when junior midfielder Morgan Henry was assisted by Koonce. The Lady Panthers scored a goal in the 88th minute to cut Westminster's lead to 4-2.

The Lady Blue Jays had 24 shots - 17 on goal - and five corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey recorded five saves.

Westminster plays a SLIAC game at Spalding at 11 a.m. Sunday.
