Blue Jays win UMAC game against Greenville 35-14

Westminster junior quarterback Trent White ran for a game-high 172 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries as the Blue Jays defeated the Greenville Panthers in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game 35-14 at Priest Field on Saturday.

Westminster (2-2, 2-1 UMAC) took a 6-0 lead when White ran in a 59-yard touchdown with 13 minutes, 2 seconds left in the first. Late in the quarter, White ran in a 75-yard touchdown and junior running back Latif Adams ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 14-0 with 6:06 left in the period.

Adams finished with 147 yards rushing and a touchdown on 20 carries as the Blue Jays ran for 368 yards.

Adams ran in a 14-yard score and senior kicker Ian Pletenik added the extra point with 9:41 left in the second to stretch Westminster's lead to 21-0.

The Blue Jays went up 28-0 when White threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Keegan Chrisco and Pletenik kicked in the point-after with 0:41 left in the half.

Greenville (0-3, 0-2) came up with its first score with 0:06 remaining in the second when freshman quarterback George Harris connected with freshman wide receiver Monty Sharpe for a 27-yard touchdown. Sophomore kicker Bradley Stubbs made the extra point to make the score 28-7.

Harris threw his second touchdown in the third quarter when he found junior running back Derek Greifzu for a 14-yard score. Stubbs kicked in the extra point to cut Westminster's lead to 28-14 with 8:35 left in the period.

The Blue Jays came up with their final score of the game when freshman defensive lineman Zach Benner - a Fulton graduate - returned a fumble 61 yards for a touchdown. Pletenik knocked in the extra point to make the score 35-14.

Westminster plays a UMAC game at Crown (Minn.) College this week. Crown (1-3, 1-2) lost a UMAC game at St. Scholastica 49-13 on Saturday.
