Women's Soccer: Fontbonne 4, Westminster 3

CLAYTON, Mo. - Ellen Weaver produced the game-winning goal in the 78th minute as the Fontbonne Lady Griffins stopped the Westminster Lady Blue Jays' five-match SLIAC winning streak Tuesday night.

Westminster College (8-7-0, 5-3-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) owned a 2-1 lead at the break, but Fontbonne University (11-6-1, 7-1-0) rallied behind three second-half goals.

Junior midfielder Morgan Henry tallied an unassisted goal in the 15th minute to give the Lady Blue Jays the early advantage, before the Lady Griffins tied the match on Meredith Wendt's goal in the 18th minute. Sophomore midfielder Gracie Koonce put Westminster back in front at 2-1 with her unassisted goal in the 25th minute.

Fontbonne squared the match again on Jacey Pate's goal in the 51st minute, but senior back Hannah Wisnewski scored off an assist from Koonce in the 65th minute to give the Lady Blue Jays a 3-2 advantage.

The Lady Griffins pulled even with Westminster for the third time on Daniele Caruso's goal in the 75th minute, then took the lead for good 3 minutes later on Weaver's score.

Fontbonne possessed a decisive 22-10 edge over the Lady Blue Jays in overall shots, including 9-5 in shots on goal. The Lady Griffins also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Cradick came up with five saves for Westminster.

The Lady Blue Jays end the regular season with a SLIAC match at MacMurray (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
