Lady Owls' winning streak ends, loses to Park 2-1

The William Woods Lady Owls soccer team saw their six-game winning streak come to an end when they lost an American Midwest Conference game to the Park (Mo.) University Lady Pirates 2-1 at Firley Field on Monday.

Park (10-3-1, 10-3 AMC) scored first on an unassisted goal by Emily Key. William Woods (7-7-1, 6-4) tied the game at 1-all on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Halle Schroeder in the 54th minute.

The Lady Pirates took the final lead when Emma Chatterton was assisted by Lydia Parker in the 68th minute.

William Woods had 13 shots - six on goal - and did not record a corner kick. Sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Sturgess recorded nine saves

On Saturday, the Lady Owls shut out the Hannibal La-Grange Lady Trojans 2-0 in an AMC game on the road.

William Woods took the lead in the 29th minute when Schroeder scored on assists from sophomore defender Shelby Scanlan and sophomore midfielder Shelby Wiebe.

The Lady Owls extended their advantage over Hannibal La-Grange (6-7-3, 4-4-2) to 2-0 in the 46th minute when junior forward Jenna Vogt was assisted by senior defender Rochelle Garcia.

William Woods had 12 shots - eight on goal - and two corner kicks. Sturgess recorded two saves.

The Lady Owls play an AMC game at Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
