College Football: Northwestern (Minn.) 28, Westminster 6

The Westminster Blue Jays fell to the Northwestern Eagles in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game at Priest Field in Fulton on Saturday.

Northwestern (7-1, 6-1 UMAC) took an early lead on sophomore running back BJ Foster's 14-yard touchdown run with 12 minutes, 4 seconds to play in the first quarter. Junior kicker Ben Lyons knocked through the extra point to make it 7-0.

Westminster College (4-4, 4-3) cut the Eagles' lead to 7-6 when junior running back Latif Adams scored from 2 yards out and the Blue Jays missed the extra point with 1:57 remaining in the quarter.

Northwestern quickly extended its lead on Foster's 4-yard touchdown run with 0:44 left in the quarter and the Eagles carried that advantage into halftime. Foster finished with a game-high 122 yards rushing on 19 carries.

Northwestern made it 21-6 in the third quarter when senior quarterback Corban Halbur threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Gavin Welch at the 10:55 mark. Halbur then connected with senior wide receiver Cody Carlson for a 25-yard score with 7:36 to go in the quarter.

Halbur completed 17-of-31 passes for 194 yards.

Adams finished with 81 yards rushing on 15 carries as Westminster accumulated 312 yards of total offense. Junior quarterback Trent White was 19-of-32 passing for 195 yards and an interception.

Sophomore wide receiver Kidd Sutherlin topped the Blue Jays with four catches for 55 yards and senior wide receiver Mike Washington added three grabs for 41 yards.

Westminster plays its final home game of the season against UMAC foe St. Scholastica at noon next Saturday.
