William Woods University (4-3) raced to a 27-12 lead after one quarter and went into halftime with a decisive 49-30 advantage. Westminster College (0-4) was down 67-47 entering the fourth quarter, but made the outcome respectable by outscoring the Lady Owls 14-6 over the last 10 minutes.

Scherder did all of her scoring from behind the arc, hitting 5-of-7 3-pointers to direct William Woods with a game-high 15 points. Freshman guard Kaycee Gerald added 14 points for the Lady Owls, who shot 43 percent (30-of-70) as a team, while senior guard April Gebke supplied 13 and junior guard Jasmine Brown finished with 11.

Senior guard Andrea Zalis answered with 14 points and reached the 1,000-point mark in her Westminster career.

"I'm really proud and happy for Andrea Zalis," Lady Blue Jays head coach Tracey Braden said. "She's a great basketball player, but a lot of people don't see the hours she's put in to her game in the early mornings and late nights.

"She has earned every bit of her 1,000 points."

Sophomore forward Mirrakohl Johnson also had 14 points and seven rebounds for Westminster, which shot 40 percent (21-of-52) from the field.

The Lady Blue Jays open play in the Rhodes College Classic against host Rhodes at 6 p.m. Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee. Westminster finishes up play against Dallas at 4 p.m. Sunday.

William Woods returns to American Midwest Conference play with a matchup against Missouri Baptist University at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.
