Lady Owls advance to AMC semifinals

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - William Woods University senior middle blocker Stephanie Davis logged 10 kills Tuesday night to help steer the fifth-seeded Lady Owls past No. 4 Lindenwood University-Belleville in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament.

Junior setter Brittney Engelbrecht also registered nine kills and 25 assists for William Woods (21-13), which now moves on to a semifinal matchup against top-seeded Park University (31-1) at 4 p.m. Friday at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis. Park - ranked sixth in the NAIA - advanced with a 25-11, 25-11 and 25-20 quarterfinal win over No. 8 seed Lyon (Arkansas) College on Tuesday night.

The Lady Owls will be looking to redeem themselves after falling at Park 25-19, 25-12 and 25-19 on Nov. 3.

Senior outside hitter Victoria Day and freshman libero Jessica Jensen tallied 14 and 10 digs, respectively, on Tuesday night for William Woods, which avenged a 20-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 26-24 loss to Lindenwood-Belleville on Oct. 4 in Fulton.

In Friday's second AMC semifinal at 6:30 p.m., second-seeded Missouri Baptist (28-7) squares off against No. 3 Columbia College (24-11). Missouri Baptist is ranked No. 13 in the nation and Columbia College is No. 21.

The tournament championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday.
