The Callaway County Commission appointed five new members to the county's anti-domestic violence board Tuesday afternoon.

Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann said the domestic violence board has not had any new appointees since the 1980s. He said, up until last year, the local entity Coalition Against Rape & Domestic Violence had been the only organization to apply for funding.

"The vacancy came to our attention when we had two applicants last year, with CARDV and the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service out of Jefferson City," Jungermann said. "Before then, the money would just go to CARDV but last year we were able to meet with the two without a board and were able to come to an agreement."

The new domestic violence board members are Callaway County auditor Karen Rentschler, Kelly Trigg, Dr. Thomas Cooper, Tim Borman and Kellie Pontius. All board members were appointed unanimously and will serve a 15-month term from Oct. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2020.

"My hope is that the board will be able to identify and seamlessly support the unmet needs of domestic violence programs and services in the community," Pontius said.

Jungermann said the domestic violence board only allocates approximately $10,000 annually and will only meet twice a year. The board positions are on a volunteer basis.

Additionally, appointments were made to four other boards during the meeting. Unanimously, Jungermann was reappointed to the Mid-Mo Regional Planning Commission and Holts Summit's city administrator Hanna Lechner was newly appointed. Both will serve two-year terms.

Tourism board member Brian Warren resigned and his vacancy was unanimously filled by Jenny O'Donely. She will serve the remainder of his term through January 2020, and will additionally serve a new three-year term until Dec. 31, 2022. Stacy Proctor was reappointed to another three-year term on the travel board as well.

Unanimously, three members of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization board were reappointed. Reappointees include Western District Commissioner Roger Fischer; Paul Winkelmann of the road and bridge division; and Mark Tate, of Holts Summit. Each will serve a one-year term that expires Dec. 31, 2020.

Kathy Groves was also unanimously reappointed to the Central Workforce Investment board to a three-year term that will expire June 30, 2022.
