Sgt. White: Stay in car following accident

If you are driving and experience an accident, Sgt. Scott White of the Missouri Highway Patrol has some advice for you.

"Stay in your vehicle," he said Tuesday. "If you lost control (of your car), chances are there will be another one who will, too."

If you are in an accident and carry a cellphone, White said to call Star 55 or 9-1-1.

Icy conditions may have contributed to some vehicle accidents along Callaway County roads recently.

Troopers reported a one-vehicle accident at 2:29 p.m. Monday that left one person with minor injuries. Nathan W. Nolan, 16, of Auxvasse, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital.

He was a passenger in a 2008 Volkswagen Passat driven by Savannah K. Mosley, 21, of Auxvasse, on County Road 280, near County Road 271. The car slid off the road and struck a tree.

Occupants were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Other weekend accidents along Interstate 70 may have snarled traffic but caused no injuries.

"We did have several crashes, but none of them were serious," White said.

He added crash reports on the Patrol's website only include accidents with injuries. Roads on Tuesday were clearer.

"So far the roads are just wet," White said, adding some advice: "Slow down and give yourself time to react.
