FPS board members to vote on full-day preschool

The agenda for tonight's Fulton Public School Board of Education session promises a routine meeting.

One issue potentially impacting parents is an increase in BAC-PAC program fees. Board members will vote on whether to increase the cost per session for the before- and after-school care program by 25 cents. The agenda cites increased program costs as the reason for the proposed fee increase.

Additionally, due to Missouri Preschool Project funding cuts, the district is considering switching its preschool program at the Fulton Early Childhood Center from half-days to full days. Currently, the MPP program has space for 40 students. If restructured to full days, the program could only hold 20 students.

Benefits listed in the agenda include more time with students, better connections between the teacher and students, and the ability to offer lunch.

"Currently several tell us they don't eat lunch," FECC director Jen Meyerhoff states in the agenda.

Board members will vote to approve updated student handbooks. The handbooks' full text, with changes marked, may be found at bit.ly/2K5K2zE.
