HERMANN - A Holts Summit man reported missing in March was found dead Wednesday in Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy G. Moon, 48, was listed as missing March 11, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol's missing person site.

Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputies were notified at 3:54 p.m. March 11 of a suicidal person between Holts Summit and Tebbetts, Sheriff Clay Chism said.

"Further information provided to deputies was that (Moon), the person in question, was possibly (heading) to the Mokane River Access along State Highway 94 to commit self-harm," Chism said in a Thursday news release.

When deputies arrived at the river access, they found Moon's empty vehicle. An extensive search through the evening and continuing the next morning turned up no sign of Moon, Chism said. The Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Highway Patrol and Jefferson City Fire Department aided in the search. Searchers used aircraft, drones, an ATV and boats, he added.

"All law enforcement agencies downstream the Missouri River were notified of the situation," Chism said.

At 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received a report of human remains found tangled in fishing lines on the Missouri River, just west of the bridge at Hermann. Deputies, the MSHP, Missouri State Water Patrol, Division of Drug and Crime Control, and Hermann Fire and Rescue assisted in recovering the body, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The deceased was transported the Boone County Medical Examiner's office, where the body's identity was determined, Chism said. Moon may have been in the water for several weeks, according to the Montgomery County news release.

The medical examiner has not yet ruled on the cause or manner of death, Chism said.

"The sheriff has been in personal contact with the Moon family, in respect of their loss, to ensure they were aware of (the) details being provided," he added.
