Auxvasse man receives 5 years probation for assault

An Auxvasse man was placed on five years of supervised probation for pleading guilty to an amended charge from an August 2016 drug deal that ended in an assault in Jefferson City.

Dakota Foster, 19, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault. A charge of armed criminal action was dismissed.

The incident occurred around in the 300 block of Mesa Drive, according to the Jefferson City Police.

A witness said as a man exited a vehicle, someone shot at him two or three times. Two spent 9mm shell casings were found in the road.

The victim told police he and a friend had arranged to meet a female juvenile to purchase marijuana-based cookies. The girl was accompanied by Foster.

After a disagreement regarding the quantity of cookies, the victim said he fled the area with the cookies and without paying. He said Foster and the girl chased him until they reached the 500 block of Madison Street, where Foster displayed a handgun.

The victim said he and a passenger left in their vehicle. Foster continued to chase them.

When they got to Mesa, the victim said, he left his vehicle, ran into some woods and heard two gunshots he thought were aimed at him.

A witness said Foster got out of his vehicle and approached the victim on Madison, where he displayed and threatened the victim with a handgun.
