A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with a shooting on South Brooks Drive in July 2015.

Richard Beekman, 51, of 5428 S. Brooks Drive, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and leaving the scene of a shooting,

His sentence will run concurrent with all other sentences against him.

According to the Cole County Sheriff's Department, the shooting took place at Beekman's residence. The victim told police Beekman pointed a gun at him during an argument. The victim said he turned around when Beekman shot him. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the right wrist and right side of his abdomen.

After the shooting, authorities contacted Beekman by phone and asked him to return to his residence for questioning. When he returned, he was taken into custody along with two potential witnesses.

A silver 9mm shell casing was discovered in Beekman's driveway along with blood pools and droplets leading from the end of the driveway to across the street. During a search of Beekman's home, police found a pistol magazine containing 9mm ammunition similar to what was found on the driveway.
