Arson lands Jefferson City man on probation

A Jefferson City man has been placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to charges in connection with an arson fire last September.

Patrick Glavin, 44, was charged with second-degree arson and animal abuse.

As part of his probation, he was ordered to serve 60 days in the Cole County Jail, with credit for time served.

According to Fire Department reports, the 1-story home at 1112 Jackson St. was spewing fire and smoke when the first crews arrived on the scene. Glavin met the responders as they arrived, falsely telling them someone was inside.

After fire crews found no other occupants, they had the fire under control within 25 minutes.

Glavin was taken to the police station for questioning, where he admitted to a domestic incident with his partner, who was not in the home when he poured gasoline on mattresses to start the fire.

The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage throughout, and a dog inside the residence was killed.
