An Ameren Missouri worker does repairs in the area of State Street and Jackson Street where a transformer went out, leaving residents of Dulle Hamilton Towers without power for most of Labor Day, Sept. 5, 2016.

Jefferson City Housing Authority officials said there is no requirement for a large backup generator to be in place if a power outage occurs like what happened Labor Day at the Dulle Hamilton Towers.

Residents spent most of the day without electrical power after a transformer serving the public housing facility went out around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Crews got on the scene around 5 a.m. and found the transformer was located at State Street and Jackson Street.

They called in for more equipment and manpower. They had to install a new transformer and also upgraded electrical cables in the area.

Eventually power was restored just after 5 p.m.

The outage only affected the towers. Ameren Missouri officials did not know what caused the transformer to go out.

Housing authority officials said there is a small generator on site, but it is only for emergency lighting.

They also said there were no reports of medical emergencies during the outage.
