North Callaway board gets bids to wrap up project

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. -- The North Callaway School Board received a series of bids for the last phase of the bond project at its regular meeting Thursday.

Representatives of Architects Alliance Inc. presented different bid options from eight different contractors for the project, which includes the construction of the high school's agricultural/science building. The project also includes removing the existing transportation and maintenance building, constructing another in its place and renovating the ceiling tiles and lighting in the district building.

The lowest three bidders were within 3 percent of each other with the lowest proposed bid for the entire project at approximately $208 million. The bidders had 15 alternate designs for the projects including an option that extends the agricultural/science building's blueprint by 1400 square feet.

The proposed bids were for the overall cost of all parts of the project. The board, however, indicated an interest in selecting multiple contractors for different projects.

"These numbers don't mean much if we choose separate contractors for the two parts of the project," board member Sandy Lavy told the representatives.

The board agreed to meet at a later date to continue discussing the bond bids.

Superintendent Bryan Thomsen also updated the board on the first phase of the project which is nearing completion. Fencing around the shot put area of the track field will need to be installed before the first phase is finished.
