Local music teacher and crew present concert

Anna Dreyer looked proudly at her father, John, who was preparing himself Tuesday evening for a holiday concert performance with his students and a choir, too.

"He has 14 students right now," she said as he closed his eyes, tuning his cello in the Friends Room at the Callaway County Public Library in Fulton.

Anna, 20, said she grew up in this musical household that also includes her brother, Naman, and her mom, Sandra.

"My brother plays the piano and cello, and my mom plays the clarinet," she said, adding she performs vocals and also plays the cello. "We're a musical family."

On Tuesday, she helped the performance with readings interspersed with songs.

"I used to play, starting when I was 5 years old, and then I started competitive cheerleading," she said. "I needed a break."

Her father also plays the viola and violin.

"I love being a part of this family - I love this togetherness," Anna said.

John Dreyer offers lessons on many instruments. In addition to running his music studio, he plays cello in Concord Baptist Church Orchestra, and has taught music in public schools. He also holds a degree in cello performance.
