COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- A new mammogram van is scheduled to visit various Missouri counties this year to give breast cancer screenings.
The Columbia Missourian (http://bit.ly/1SEzcxj) reports that the goal of the University of Missouri's Ellis Fischel Cancer Center's van is to bring quality screenings to women throughout the state.
A nurse, a mammography technologist and another staff member will be aboard the van during the 22 stops planned from April 11 to June 22. A 3-D mammography suite, two private changing rooms and an exam bed are inside the van. The 20- to 30-minute screenings are supposed to offer fast access to breast health services.
Screenings aren't free, but some financial assistance may be provided by insurance or through the cancer center. The David B. Lichtenstein Foundation paid for the nearly $766,000 van.
