The Holts Summit Police Department arrested a man and a woman after they tried to use counterfeit $20 bills at the local McDonald's restaurant in the 100 block of Northstar Drive Monday.

According to a Holts Summit Police Department press release, Callaway County Joint Communications received a 911 call from a McDonald's employee at 2:14 p.m., notifying authorities that a male customer tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill at the drive thru.

The employee said the male suspect headed toward Jefferson City and gave detailed information about the man's appearance, car description and license plate number.

Because of that, Jefferson City Police Department located the vehicle traveling west on U.S. Highway 54 near the Missouri River while Holts Summit police officers were on scene at the fast food restaurant.

Jefferson City police took the male suspect and a woman into custody.

Holts Summit police identified the male suspect, 25, through the restaurant's video surveillance system. The woman, 22, "made incriminating statements" during an interview which lead officers to determine she also paid with a $20 counterfeit bill, according to the release.

The man and woman are in Callaway County Jail pending charges and their names have not yet been released.

The Missouri Division of Family Services handed a five-month old baby who was found in the vehicle over to family members.

Sgt. Marc Haycook with the Holts Summit Police Department said employees typically discover counterfeit bills when they are counting their drawers at the end of a shift and the person who used counterfeit money has been gone.
