No. 6 Lady Owls place fourth at NAIA National Championships

The sixth-ranked William Woods women's golf team closed out its season with a top-five national finish.

The Lady Owls posted a team score of 82-over-par-1204 (307-317-311-299) to claim fourth place at the 2014 NAIA National Championships on Friday at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club.

Oklahoma City University and SCAD Savannah each totaled a 57-over-par-1209 to finish in a tie after 72 holes. OCU (304-304-306-295) bested SCAD (304-304-306-296) on the first playoff hole to claim its second consecutive national title.

Bellevue University shot a 72-over-par-1224 (314-414-299-297) to finish in third, while the University of the Cumberlands scored an 85-over-par-1237 (310-308-306-313), finishing three shots behind William Woods for fifth place.

Lady Owls sophomore Myriam Hassan shot a 12-over-par-300 (76-71-73-71) to finish in fourth place individually and earn a spot on the NAIA All-Tournament squad.

SCAD's Alazne Urizar won the individual crown after notching a 3-over-par-291 (76-71-73-71). Elia Folch of OCU finished second with a 4-over-par-292 and Sofia Molinaro of SCAD took third with a 6-over-par-294.

Sophomore Jodie Peacock joined Hassan on the All-Tournament team with a 17-over-par-305 to finish in 13th place. Peacock (75-81-75-74) was at even-par through 16 holes, but bogeyed 17 and 18 to finish her round at 2-over-par and earn all-tournament recognition for the first time in her William Woods career.

Senior Jamie Palermo collected 22nd place after shooting a 22-over-par-310 (81-81-73-75). Palermo - who finished third overall at last year's national championships - was 4-over-par through the final 36 holes after shooting 18-over in her first two rounds.

Redshirt sophomore Joni Purvis shot a 38-over-par-326 (75-85-83-83) to place 54th, while sophomore Alejandra Ferrer finished in 58th place after totaling a 41-over-par-329 (84-83-84-79).
