MSD's Jones makes Class 1 championships in four events

ST. LOUIS - Senior Nick Jones will be returning to defend his state titles in the 100 and 200 meters after winning both events as the Eagles' sole qualifier at Saturday's Class 1, Sectional 1 championships.

Jones triumphed in the 100 and 200 with times of 11.19 and 23.17 seconds, respectively, at Principia High School. He also qualified for state with his victory in the long jump (21 feet, 11 inches) and second-place finish in the 400 (:51.53).

Jones also came in second in the state in the 400 and third in the long jump last year as he carried the Missouri School for the Deaf to a fourth-place team finish by himself. On Saturday, he scored 38 points as the Eagles came in eighth overall.

La Plata collected the boys' Sectional 1 team title with 89 points.

The Class 1 state championships are set for Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.
