Westminster's Branneky, Hughes earn all-SLIAC first-team baseball status

Junior third baseman Tyler Branneky and sophomore left fielder Deion Hughes were both first-team picks for the Blue Jays on the 2014 all-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference squad announced Thursday.

Junior first baseman Tim Chambliss was also named to the second team for Westminster College, while senior center fielder Andy Pichler was an honorable-mention choice. Sophomore right fielder Ryan Loethen was selected to the SLIAC's all-sportsmanship team.

Branneky led the Blue Jays with a .366 batting average and .577 slugging percentage. He finished with 45 hits, including four home runs, eight doubles and three triples, and scored 31 runs and had 23 runs batted in.

Hughes went 8-1 on the mound - setting a school record for wins in a season - and compiled a 1.94 ERA, with 79 strikeouts. At the plate, he batted .361 and topped Westminster with 48 hits and four triples. Hughes was second on the team with 26 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

Chambliss hit .346 and paced the Blue Jays with 30 RBIs and 10 doubles. He also scored 26 runs. Pichler finished with a .292 batting average, 25 runs scored and led the team with 11 stolen bases.

Westminster ended the season at 21-14 overall and in fifth place in the SLIAC with a 15-12 mark.
