New Bloomfield baseball team mauls MMA

Junior center fielder Tucker Lane finished 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs Thursday night as the Wildcats crushed the Colonels 12-2 in six innings.

Missouri Military Academy went in front with a run in the top of the first, but Lane drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to give the Wildcats a 2-1 edge. New Bloomfield (7-6) added three runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to stop the game on the mercy rule. The Colonels tallied their other run in the sixth.

Senior first baseman Cam Edwards went 3-for-5 with two RBIs as the Wildcats piled up 15 hits. Sophomore shortstop Grant Nichols finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the Wildcats soundly out-hit the Colonels 15-3.

"We came out flat (at the plate) in those first few innings, then we started making better contact," New Bloomfield head coach Brandon Talbot said. "We started lining the ball up in the later innings and hitting better pitches, and we ran away with it then.

"(In) the fourth, fifth and sixth, we played well."

Junior starter Brady Wiler threw two innings to get the win for the Wildcats. Wiler allowed a run on one hit, struck out four, walked one and hit a batter. MMA managed just three hits.

New Bloomfield travels to Russellville for a Show-Me Conference contest at 5 p.m. Monday.
