'Barks and Bubbles' returns Saturday

June 24th, 2014 in News

Max, owned by Bradley Atkisson of Fulton, gets a bath during the Callaway County Humane Society's pet wash last September. The organization will hos another "Barks and Bubbles" event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Dog Park.

Cleaning, clippings and micro-chippings are just some of the things on the docket at the second-annual "Barks and Bubbles" pet wash.

Local owners can bring their dogs and cats to the Fulton Dog Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday for the event, sponsored by the Callaway County Humane Society.

Pets can get free cleanings and nail trimmings while owners can get their dogs and cats micro-chipped for $25. The microchip is a small piece that will go under the animal's skin and aid in finding them if they're lost. According to team leader for Friends of the Callaway County Humane Society Angel Blanksenship, the price for the micro-chip procedure is lower than it would be at any other place.

Young patrons will be able to get their faces painted while listening to live music. Local vendors will also be present selling pet-centered products. "Adorbale Grooms" will be selling t-shirts featuring the event's logo while Humane Society merchandise will also be on sale. "Paws and Stars," a pet-boarding service based out of Mokane, is also scheduled to be in attendance as will "For Tails Only," an all-natural pet treat vendor that will provide free samples.Games and photo opportunities for both children and pets will be present as well.

Blankenship said last year's event raised about $275 despite little advertisement. Response from the community prompted her to schedule another installment.

"It was fun having local groups, it was a lot of fun (having) the interaction with the community," Blankenship said. "...People really seemed to appreciate it and enjoy it."
