JOPLIN - A Calwood man wanted in Callaway on charges ranging from assault and stalking to felony stealing is in custody in Joplin.

According to a press release from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, Wendell "Scott" Belisle, 39, was arrested by the Joplin Police Department on Monday for charges including felony forgery.

The sheriff's office had asked the public for help locating Belisle - who was wanted for failure to appear on assault and drug charges - on July 1, stating at the time, "Belisle is known to carry firearms and should be considered armed."

The release states Belisle attempted to flee from Joplin law enforcement and was taken into custody after a chase. He is currently being held in the Newton County Jail on the local charges.

Belisle also is being held on a number of Callaway County charges including domestic assault, victim/witness tampering, traffic offenses and probation violations for previous convictions of felony stealing and aggravated stalking.

According to the release, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation.

The Fulton Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in the search for Belisle.
