Pedestrian struck on Highway 54

A Callaway County resident was hit by a car on Highway 54 early Monday morning.

At approximately 1:03 a.m., Fulton police responded to a report of a struck pedestrian on eastbound Highway 54, just north of County Road 114.

The alleged driver, operating a red 2007 Dodge Caliber, said she was unable to see the subject due to foggy conditions, but reported striking someone walking on the roadway in all-black clothing. Officers discovered the victim, 38-year old Larry J. Gallup of Fulton, in a nearby ditch with injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.

Gallup was taken to University Hospital in Columbia by EMS, where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver is not facing charges at this time according to Maj. Roger Rice of the FPD and an investigation is ongoing.
