Junior guard stays hot with game-high 24 in 69-48 rout of Bobcats

January 11th, 2014 in News

With a clear path to the basket and Fulton in front by 24 points in the third quarter, Hornets junior guard Ricky Dawson saw his chance to add a crowd-pleasing dunk to an already impressive outing against the Bowling Green Bobcats.

The plan didn't quite work out for Dawson on the way up, though. The shot started as an attempted slam, but ended up as Dawson executing a very exciting, one-handed layup to push Fulton's comfortable advantage to 47-21.

"Very close," Dawson said of the try. "It just slipped out of my hand."

"He always says the ball slips out of his hands," Fulton head coach Ryan Shaw said with a chuckle. "I'll simply say this about Ricky's dunk: he's lucky (the ball) went in.

"That's all I have to say about that."

Dawson didn't miss much Friday night, finishing with a game-high 24 points and steering the Hornets to a 69-48 blowout of Bowling Green at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Dawson made 6-of-10 shots, going 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and converted 6-of-8 free throws. He eclipsed 20 points for a third game in a row and is averaging 27 points during that stretch.

"... He's doing the things we'd hoped (he'd do) the last couple of years," Shaw said. "When he attacks, he's either going to get a layup or he's going to get to the free-throw line; there's not many people on our schedule who can guard him one-on-one."
