Junior guard Elaine Brinker responded with a game-high 15 points and North Callaway took control behind a strong second quarter as the Ladybirds overpowered Southern Boone 53-34 on Monday night.
North Callaway was only up 11-9 after one quarter, but gained some separation by outscoring Southern Boone 18-2 in the second quarter to extend its lead to 29-11 at halftime. The Ladybirds also outscored the Lady Eagles 14-13 in the third quarter and carried a 43-24 advantage into the final 8 minutes.
"It was a good win and it all came by way of our defense," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "We forced a lot of turnovers and that enabled us to come up with easy shots at the other end of the court."
Senior forward Maddie Sorell chipped in with 14 points, collected a team-high six rebounds and - along with Brinker - had three steals as the Ladybirds raised their season record to 8-1. Brinker, senior guard Jaida Gray and senior forward Kelsey Coil each passed out four assists.
