Fulton trivia buffs had better brush up on their energy policy and their peanuts.
President Jimmy Carter will be the topic of questions for the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society's inaugural President's Day Trivia Night Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Sir Winston's banquet room. Doors open at 6 p.m. and trivia starts at 7.
Though the night of quizzing will predominantly feature general trivia questions, one category will focus on America's 39th president, whose name was drawn from a hat by Fulton Mayor LeRoy Benton Monday morning.
Trivia chair Diane Burre Ludwig said that with the success of other area trivia night fundraisers such as Kingdom Projects and Boyd & Boyd Inc.'s Relay for Life team, the Historical Society saw a perfect opportunity to raise money for services and projects while putting their own unique twist on things in honor of the holiday.
"We've been to the Kingdom Projects one and the Relay one, and we had a great time," Ludwig said. "Now we understand it's about having fun and helping out. The Historical Society wants part of it to have a little historical spin on it, but it's not a history quiz."
Carter, who sat in the Oval Office from 1977 to 1981, was a Navy Lieutenant and peanut farmer before beginning his political career at the state level in Georgia. Significant events during his term in office include the U.S. energy crisis and the Iran hostage crisis.
Ludwig said Carter made a great subject for the group's first trivia night.
"I was pleased (when Benton drew Carter)," Ludwig said. "I was afraid we were going to get someone who just had a pretty short term. (Carter) was just a one-term president but a lot happened on his watch."
