Callaway County residents see state, local taxes waived during Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday

For the first year since the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday was established in 2009, all local entities in Callaway County are providing tax exemptions for shoppers on Energy Star appliances.

From now until April 25, all state and local sales taxes in Callaway County will be dropped for consumers on energy-efficient appliances in order to help promote a more sustainable environment.

The Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday is held every year during the same week, and the 4.225 percent state sales tax is waved across Missouri for shoppers on energy-efficient appliances for up to $1,500 per appliance, such as refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces and clothes washers.

Fulton Councilman Rick Shiverdecker, who is also the local Sears appliance store owner, said he is excited about the holiday and hopes to bring in more local business from the Fulton and Callaway communities.

"The holiday gives residents the opportunity to purchase Energy Star appliances up to $1,500 at a discounted rate," Shiverdecker said.
