Na'Dyia Curtis, the child's aunt, made contact with Eboni at a rear door of West Elementary School at 100 Dix Road and walked her to the vehicle where the child's mother, Britney Coney, was waiting. Security video footage indicates the child began struggling when she saw her mother. There is a dismissed Child Protection order that was previously active with the mother as respondent. In addition, Jefferson City police stated: "There are concerns in this investigation about the exact civil legal custody arrangement regarding Eboni; however, due to the nature in which Eboni was taken from the school and this uncertainty over custodial matters, anyone in the public is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency should her whereabouts become known to ensure her well-being and so that those involved may be questioned."
