Blue Jays' offense erupts in SLIAC wins over Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - The Westminster offense kicked it into high gear and closed out its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against the Red Devils in style.

The Blue Jays pounded out 15 hits as they blasted Eureka 15-2 in seven innings to close out the conference set on Sunday.

Westminster (11-6, 5-4) split a doubleheader with the Red Devils on Saturday, prevailing in the nightcap 16-5 while dropping the opening game 4-3.

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -Owls senior reliever Zach Nichols surrendered game-winning single to Eagles catcher Nick Scott with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as William Woods dropped the final game of an American Midwest Conference doubleheader to Williams Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls (24-8, 12-6) clinched the series win with a 10-7 decision in Saturday's first game and opened the set with a 17-4 thumping of the Eagles on Friday.

The Lady Blue Jays left seven runners on base in falling by three runs in the nightcap of a SLIAC doubleheader to the Lady Golden Eagles on Sunday at Blue Jay Field.

Westminster (9-11, 6-4) fell 12-2 in six innings to Spalding in the day's first game.

Lady Owls' Bowden named

AMC Pitcher of the Week

Senior MacKenzie Bowden's recent string of dominant starts was recognized with her being named the AMC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Bowden tossed a perfect game in the first of two AMC games against Freed-Hardeman on Saturday. She struck out 12 batters and needed only 71 pitches to finish the contest.

Lady Blue Jays establish new

school record in 4x400 relay

BOLIVAR - The Westminster women's quartet of senior Sarah Ogar, juniors Nyima Njie and Danielle Smulczenski and freshman Rachel Bade set a new program record in the 4x400-meter relay at the Southwest Baptist University Bearcat Invitational on Saturday.

The team ran a fourth-place time of 4 minutes, 15.25 seconds, .35 seconds faster than the previous best. The Lady Blue Jays finished fourth out of seven teams as the lone Division III school in the field.

WWU's Zink hits NAIA "B'

standard at Central Methodist

FAYETTE - Junior Nick Zink earned his first individual berth to the NAIA Outdoor Championships with his first-place run in the 400 at the Central Methodist University Invitational on Saturday.

Zink completed his run in a time of :48.50 seconds to surpass the NAIA "B' standard. Zink was a part of William Woods' All-American 4x400-meter relay team in 2013 and is a part of an Owls team that has already qualified for nationals in that event this year.

No. 6 Lady Owls win team title

at Washington University

MADISON, Ill. - William Woods won its third consecutive Washington University Spring Invitational in record fashion on Saturday.

The Lady Owls scored a 29-over-par-605 to finish one shot ahead of second-place Washington University, which totaled a 30-over-par-606. Rhodes College finished third at 47-over-par while Carleton College and DePauw University tied for fourth at 52-over-par.

Sophomore Jodie Peacock led William Woods with a second-place showing of 5-over-par-149, two shot behind the leader. Sophomore Alejandra Ferrer tied fourth with a 7-over-par-151 while senior Jamie Palermo finished in 10th place with score of 9-over-par-153. Sophomore Myriam Hassan scored a 10-over-par-154 to come in 13th and redshirt sophomore Joni Purvis placed 18th with a score of 13-over-par157.
