Fulton resolution would accept credit, debit card payment for utility bills

If a resolution is approved at the next City Council meeting April 15, Fulton ratepayers will soon have another way to settle their utility bills.

Plans are in the works to implement a credit card payment option for utility payers after the council approved drafting a resolution at its last meeting March 25.

If passed, residents will be able to pay off their bills with a Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card. Online pay would also be available.

A 3-percent surcharge from the credit agencies will be applied to the user's bill.

Earlier in March, council members asked Chief Financial Officer Kathy Holschlag to research options for online credit or debit billing. She said that if approved, an online pay option through the city website would be in place in time for May's utility bills.

"If the mayor is here on the 16th, I already have the paperwork and all the documents that require his signature," Holschlag said. "By the end of the following week I would think it would be available."
