Wildcats trip T-Birds

The North Callaway Thunderbirds continue to get in their own way, now stuck in a three-game losing streak.

North Callaway wasted five trips inside Montgomery County's 30-yard line and gave up scores to the unbeaten Wildcats on a fumble return and a crippling fourth-down pass Friday night in the Thunderbirds' 34-14 Eastern Missouri Conference loss.

The setback left North Callaway at 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the EMO, and baffled head coach Mike Emmons scrambling to seek solutions to pull the Thunderbirds out of their rut.

"We have different issues pop up each week in stopping ourselves," Emmons said afterward. "You have to give credit to Montgomery County because they're playing good football, but we get down to the 20, 25 (-yard line) consistently and we're not finishing stuff. It's frustrating.

"... We're not going to get past this and get a win until we stop making the mistakes. We have great practices and the kids are working their tails off, but it's not carrying over to the games."
