Dementia support group to show video for caretakers

Richard White said he "learned the hard way" how stressful it can be to be a caretaker.

White was the care giver for his late wife, Evelyn, for five years. She died four and a half years ago from Alzheimer's Disease.

In the years since then, White has helped establish the Fulton Alzheimer Support Group. At 7 p.m. Oct. 3 and 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, the support group will be sharing a video presentation intended to help prepare other care givers so they don't have to learn the hard way.

"It's a training film made by Heather McKay and was commissioned by the Veterans Association to be used in veterans and nursing homes to help nurses learn how to deal with veterans with dementia," White said. "For those who have been caring for someone, it's a refresher course, and we invite the public to come and see it."
