A morning downpour seemed to spell the demise of the seventh annual Bluegrass & BBQ on Sept. 8, since the event is usually held on the lawn of the Fulton State Hospital.
Susan Groves and Tom Harris were prepared, though.
"We weren't discouraged at all," said Harris, president of the Foundation for the Advancement of the Fulton State Hospital. "Everyone needs rain. We just said "Let's go inside.'"
The event relocated to the hospital's auditorium/cafeteria once organizers realized that even if the rain let up, the ground would be soaked. The only worry was a space issue.
"It seems to be growing each year," Harris said. "(Going inside) restricted us this year, and we may have dropped in donations."
Despite worries of a possible drop, the tally of funds generated by the annual concert came fairly close to last year's earnings - about $4,500. The amount won't be finalized for several days. The money raised will benefit patients and staff at the hospital.
