Callaway legislators undecided about tax cut veto override

Veto session to start noon Wednesday

September 8th, 2013 in News

Both Callaway County state representatives don't want to predict the outcome of the veto session of the Missouri General Assembly convening at noon on Wednesday and they have not reached decisions on the tax cut bill.

Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, said she has not yet decided how she would vote on various issues to be considered during the veto session, including a possible attempt to override Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of an income tax cut approved earlier this year by the legislature.

...

Rep. Jay Houghton, R-Martinsburg, said he believes legislators will look closely at all of the bills vetoed by Nixon this year.

Houghton said he also has not yet made up his mind on how he will vote on the tax cut measure.

...

"I appreciate those who have contacted me with their opinions on the tax cut bill on both sides of the issue," Riddle said. "I typically don't want to announce in advance how I plan to vote on a bill unless it is one that I have introduced. If I find out something about a bill that I was not aware of earlier, it could change my opinion of the bill. So I keep an open mind on issues. If I had announced earlier how I was going to vote and didn't vote that way, people would not like that."
