T-Birds get trumped late by Comets

A combination of unlucky ball spots and tricky play-calling from the Marionville Comets did in the North Callaway Thunderbirds in their regular season finale.

North Callaway came up short on fourth-and-inches three times and was outscored 22-6 in the second half of their 22-19 loss to Marionville on Friday night.

"(Marionville) has been averaging 40-plus points a game and we were able to hold them in check," Thunderbirds head coach Mike Emmons said. "We just gave up those key plays.

"I was proud of our effort on both sides of the ball. I was disappointed in the outcome, but not in the effort of our kids."
