Bartley students hold drive for food bank

October 24th, 2013 in News

Bartley Student Council Vice President Grace Siegel, left, and President Zoe Schuster stand with the food already collected for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. Today is the last day of the school's drive.

The barrel in the library hallway at Bartley Elementary is already full, but leaders of the school's student council are hoping to make it overflow.

Today is the last day of the council's fall food drive for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

Student council sponsor Robyn Frame said the drive is an annual effort organized and promoted by the students.

Student council president Zoe Schuster and vice president Grace Siegel - both fourth graders - agreed the food drive is important because it gives students an opportunity to give back to the community.

"I like doing it because it helps all the people in need," Schuster said.

Siegel gave a similar reason as to why she always enjoys the food drive.

"It helps other people that can't afford to pay for their food," she said.

The girls said they and their fellow council members have spent the past two weeks putting up posters, making daily announcements and encouraging their Bartley classmates to be generous.
