St. Mary's parent cutting 586 jobs; cuts to affect 10 in Mid-Missouri

SSM Health Care expects to cut 10 positions in Mid-Missouri, officials announced Friday.

The cuts at St. Mary's Health Center (SMHC) and Audrain Medical Center are part of a round of layoffs their parent company, SSM Health Care, announced earlier this week.

"Most of these are administrative positions and not directly involved with patient care," said Heather Feeler, communications coordinator at SMHC. "While difficult, this new structure will allow SSM to be better prepared for upcoming changes in the health care industry, while continuing our focus on making the patient experience the best it can possibly be."

Feeler said SMHC has 1,600 local employees. SSM Health Care has nearly 30,000 employees across four states-Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois.

According to the Associated Press, SSM announced today it is cutting 586 positions systemwide. In St. Louis, SSM said it would cut 206 jobs.
