For the second year in a row, survivors of suicide will have a safe place to talk or listen about their experience.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will be sponsoring the International Survivors of Suicide Day, an event in which people who have lost family, friends or other loved ones to suicide can meet for a program in what its website, afsp.org, calls "a safe and healing space where everyone can comfortably participate in a way that is meaningful to them."
In Fulton, it will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Callaway County Health Department's conference room.
Local AFSP Field Advocate Melody Seiger said that last year was the first time Fulton held the event. Seiger said turnout was small, but hoped to reach more of Callaway County's survivors in 2013.
"We try to target those in that one- to five-year period, but it's for anyone who's experienced a loss and just want to hear about if what they're going through is normal," Seiger said. "(They can) get together and get some advice from people who have walked in the same shoes they're walking through."
